I am going to be moving E-Mail addresses in a week or so, and have lost all
reference to the subscribe and unsubscribe instructions for this list. Could
some kind soul email same, or instructions on how to get them?

Yo,
There should be some scanned GIFs from the covers
of various C.J.Cherryh novels on ftp.maths.tcd.ie in
the pub/jaymin/cherryh directory. I have always found her
books and cover art very travelleresque.

A while ago I wrote an Excel spreadsheet for designing power pack
lasers, and in the beginning I had some problems figuring out the
	Storage Battery requirements.

	Your laser needs ( 50 * 0.1 = ) 5 Mj storage battery.

TL-9 batteries can store 0.4 MWh per cubic meter of battery. 1 MWh
	equals 3600 Mj, so the battery contains ( 0.4 * 3600 = ) 1440 Mj/m^3
	= 1.44 Mj/dm^3.

	5 Mj / 1.44 Mj/dm^3 = 3.472 dm^3 of battery

If the ROF is 2 shots/turn, the whole battery can be discharged in
	( 5 / 2 * 50 = ) 125 seconds. The slowest possible Battery Discharge
Rate that can be used is the 36-second model that doubles the battery
	price.

The Power Pack must have the battry, homopolar generator, 20-50% of
the DEI laser cooling system, and protetctive casing.

Component	Volume (dm^3)	Weight (kg)	Price (Cr)
	Battery (5 Mj) 3.472 6.944 13.88
	HPG (0.1 Mj) 10 20 20
	Cooler (50%) 0.5 1 850
	Casing (AV 1) 4.192 41.92
	----------------------------------------------------------
	TOTAL 13.972 dm^3 32.136 kg	925.80 Cr

If powered by generator instead of battery, the power input will be
	( ( 0.1 Mj * 2 shots ) / 5 seconds = 0.04 MW ) = 40 kW.

As an example of DEI laser weapons:

----------

TL-14 10cm Tunable Wavelenght DEI Laser Rifle

Focal Array Diameter: 10 cm
Pulse Discharge Energy:	40 kj (SA5), 13.3 kj (3), 8 kj (5), 4 kj (10),
800 j (50)
Weapon Lenght: 94.4 cm
Weapon Weight: 4.558 kg
Weapon Price: Cr2253
Power Pack Weight: 6.36 kg
Power Pack Price: Cr540
Power Pack Capacity: 0.75 kWh battery (2.7 Mj energy), 3.6 second discharge
time, with 40 kj HPG and 50% cooler. 40 kW maximum output gives one 40 kj
shot every second for 50 seconds.
Features: Laser sight, optic sight, ruggerized weapon body (to melee
standards), mounting rail for underslung secondary weapon.

Energy	ROF	Dam Dice	Pen	Bulk	Mag	Range
40 kj	SA5	10-5-3-1-1	Nil	6	50	200 (300)
13.3 kj	3 6-3-1-1-0	Nil	6	50	200 (300)
8 kj	5 4-2-1-1-0	Nil	6	50	200 (300)
4 kj	10 3-2-1-0	Nil	6	50	200 (300)
800 j	50 1-1-0 Nil	6	50	200 (300)

Notes: Short Range for aiming purposes is 300 meters, but atmospheric
performace may be different. The beam wavelenght is optimized for various
athmosphereic thiknesses.
Vacuum	10 km	Trace	9 km	V Thin	1 km	Thin	400 m
Stand	200 m	Dense	100 m	Exotic	20 m
The power pack has adapter for external power input, that can be used to
recharge the battery or power the weapon. The maximum power input is 53.3 kW.

Okay, thanks for all of you who helped me with this Chirper Problem.
But this just gives me a new problem and this is Droyne. Mainly their TL.
In fact I have thought to use them in Karaguuka where they have a secret
underwater base with (hopefully) high TL stuff in it.

Well weve hit the big one hundred. Shouldnt we have a party to celebrate?
WANTED: Information on how I can get material on the K'kree and Hivers. I
wouldnnt mind seeing how big the Hiver Federation, and the 2000 worlds were.

Also has anyone seen Challenge 75? Whats it like? Is there anything about
the Black Curtain in it?

Cheers,

Mark.
